Funniest art theft ever :D

Sat Apr 21, 2012, 3:30 AM
  • Listening to: stuff with lots of bass in it.
  • Reading: too much to let me sleep enough.
  • Playing: the game of life. ha!
  • Eating: dreams.
  • Drinking: black coffee. too much of it perhaps.
I just got a note that my artwork got stolen.. Not only mine, I noticed some other artists' works there. I usually take care of such things in private, but in this case I'll make the exception, as it deserves it. I literally almost fell of my chair, laughing, when I saw that :D See for yourself:

Art theft by vinegar
www.flickr.com/photos/livingin…

Yes, I'm attaching this person's account name on purpose. After all she didn't feel bad to steal my art, alter it poorly and also claim she was the model for some of it, so why shouldn't I share her name in return? Seems only fair after all the hard work she put into it :D

Anyone knows how reporting works on Flickr? I never used it before.

Some of the stolen works:

By pumpkiiin

By crayonmaniac
Symphony in blue and green by crayonmaniac The Elves of the hidden forest by crayonmaniac

By Lanfirka
Fiery birds by Lanfirka Strange autumn by Lanfirka

By fdasuarez
Bat your eyes girl by fdasuarez

Mine:
Cleopatra by vinegar Ginger Nova by vinegar angel. by vinegar Ladybug's heart by vinegar

Please let me know  if you recognize the authors of the rest!

haha...she should have just cut out the head and put in a smiley face instead....that would've been more appealing.

I have similar feelings as you do when it comes to people stealing my work.
I always say, if you're going to go through all that trouble to steal my shitty work at least have the balls to make it better.
...stealing is one thing. But stealing, and then making the piece worse is another...
Don't crap on my crap....haha

I hope someone shits in her mouth.
..haha...I shouldn't say those things...haha
take care...drive safely

I find it so ironic that this thief thought she could claim the artwork as her's after just editing the face? Really?

Hope your able to have this situation taken care of and have her account deactivated.

I remember to have seen the Alice in Wonderland somewhere before... Was it even a DD sometime ago? :?

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. ;) Or sassyness pays off/for the win. But at least the person changed something about the works and didn't just post the original.
Art thieves are like a disease. They come, they're mean to you, go away after some time (and maybe some damage, too) and come back as some slightly changed disease. At least someone can say that his/her art has to be popular to be stolen. ;)

Yeah, I could say it's sort of like a compliment, that she chose my pieces to alter.. All in all not the first art theft I've seen, but definitely one of the funnier ones ;)

OH MY GOD XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

The thief lives in Second Life!!!!!!!!

Oh, that just makes my day that the person would pose as the model for ALL of them. :XD:

I am tickled by the audacity of some people, but would it not be hilarious to find real photos of this person and expose him/her for who they really are?

I believe she actually posted a real photo of herself there :D At least it's the only unaltered photo there, and it is signed as her photo.. Who knows by looking at the rest of it..

Nah, it's irritating and funny, but it's not a commercial use, so I don't mind it that much. I wouldn't mind it at all if she would credit it like "my manipulation of art by X, face pasted in by me" or something. It would still be funny, but at least fair.

Mmmm... well, i agree... a little bit.
But, that shows your originality.
well... as my teacher told me, if someone copies your work, it is because that person loved it. it must have some truth.

I won't, it's harmless as it's non-commercial, it's just a bit irritating and stupid. As long as it gets deleted or properly credited, I'm fine. By properly credited I mean something like: "Original art by X, unauthorized face & filter alterations by me" or anything like it. I still wouldn't be very happy about it, but privately, I definitely wouldn't make a fuss.

hahaha - that would be a hilarious credit to read.

i just feel like it's something that happens too much and is not always non-ccommercial. i hate seeing the artists i respect & admire get treated this way.

It's amusing how these people probably sit there, uploading these photos thinking 'Ohhh, ah ha ha, I'll never get caught! And people will praise me, thinking I made these! Oh attention! How I love thee! I'm so awsome! Tra la la'.

And then this happens. And they probably sit there staring at the screen looking gob-smacked. Like there wasn't even the remote possibility they would get caught or called out on it.

Well, welcome to the power of Deviantart, fools! Think before doing something stupid next time, yeah?

Hope this gets resolved quick, darling. Your culprit seems a bit dim :giggle:

You're welcome! I'll keep sending messages until she's taken down. It's not fair for people who put so much effort and time into their works of art, just to be stolen by someone who obviously doesn't care about others or the code of ethics.

the faces are not even painted over in one of my works, in angel face she just put horrible eyes and a mouth on my painting, nothing else is changed, except that it is blurry, what goes on in people's head that do such stuff

Hey I watch all those artists! I am familiar with the original artwork of pumpkin very very well!! And now that is a great example of art theft by altering/changing and tracing. That is TRACING! She didn't even reference it. She traced and altered everything albiet poorly. Not her original work. Not her original work at all.

doesn't even look like tracing, looks like she just used the smoothing filter & slapped a new face on each one!

Or painted over. Just simply painted over. With a different face. I mean the hair waves are the same, the curves of Cleopatra's crown and ornaments are the same just the face is slightly altared. She may have taken the face from some place else too. *shrugs*

She definitely didn't paint it over, just as ~TGIFriday said - these are original works, just altered with some filters and faces pasted in. Tracing would actually require a bit more skill that's why it's even funnier imo ;)
