Another art challenge by , , and, for the first time, !
For each challenge we interchangeably give ourselves an idea or topic to illustrate and a short, specified time to execute it in whatever shape or form... of course, without knowing what the others are going to come up with.
This week's topic is *vinegar's idea: Midnight Blues. Whatever comes to mind when you think about those words.
___________
First piece in 2012! Always wanted to paint something titled this way, hence this topic now. Also an excuse to have some fun with Painter and leave some bits unfinished, not overworked as I tend to do. I'm quite fond of it at the moment
Done in Corel Painter and Photoshop, a loose ref used (some of my own resources, ekhem, party photos - hands and guitar mostly). Just in case - no ref used for the face, wasn't inspired by anyone etc.. People seem to find every single celebrity and themselves too in my more realistic faces but please, drop it. If I wanted to base it on anyone I would mention it. Really.
Fun fact: I hate blue. Well, most shades of it anyway. So that's pretty rare when you see a fully blue piece coming from me.
All of the values, shading and details are excellent. I love the way you did the lighting. The style and the details of her hair are greatly done. I like how the painting is hard with a bit of softness at the same time. Her skin tones are brought out very well. Her eyes are really good and give off a nice emotional feel as if she had a sudden burst of inspiration after a long creative block. The birds and the details of the background really help give this off also. The details and shading on her clothes are placed very well matching the position that she's sitting in. The guitar is very nice too. This is a beautiful piece overall.
