Another art challenge by , , For each challenge we interchangeably give ourselves an idea or topic to illustrate and a short, specified time to execute it in whatever shape or form... of course, without knowing what the others are going to come up with.
This week's topic is *vinegar's idea: Inspirations. Paint two images, each inspired by each other's artwork. I chose these two pieces:
__
Mine are both works in progress (hence the messy lines visibles and such), but most lights and shapes are in place already, I just need to work on details. Will post both as separate pictures when I'm done with them.
As for *daekazu's piece - I just loved the eerie atmosphere and shape of her pose he created, so I tried to paint something really close to his work, just a bit more sinister. Also this is one of my few works with so much blue in it. I don't like most shades of blue, so this is the colour I often argue with. I also chose this piece by him because of the discussion we had once, when I said how I'm tired of Disney mermaids, dislike Ariel and seeing mermaids pictures in general. Hey, don't kill me.
I got kind of carried away with =Teanah's piece. I loved how the lines were stylised in it and the whole mood. Mine started out very similar to her work, then I started having fun with all the folds and whites and I studied closely a feet ref and it kind of turned out much different than I thought it will.. Much more painterly. Ah, well. I learn a lot on this one. Earrings and vase took ages (various refs from my own resources), but not as much as those flowers will. I actually painted just a few and then pasted them together, but detailing them with proper lights and such.. Well, I curse myself already.
I like the mermaid's expression in this one. Daekazu's mermaids normally have an innocent look on their faces but yours could be an illustration for some old pirate legend about sirens. She looks strong and ready to pounce!
