Another weekly art challenge, but this time by , , and... ! For each challenge we interchangeably give ourselves an idea or topic to illustrate and a week to execute it in whatever shape or form... of course, without knowing what the others are going to come up with
This week's topic is =daekazu's idea: Day and Night as a man and a woman. __
Well, a Night claiming a Day. Night is a bit bold, Day is a gentle, fragile guy. That's my version. A bit rushed, but I like the idea. Might finish it off a bit more one day. Hope you'll like it! Photoshop and Painter. Work in Progress shots can be find on my blog at [link]
I don't know if this was intentionally done, but I couldn't help but notice that in all four pieces each of you portrayed the man as day and the woman as night. It reminds me of something that I read somewhere about the yin and yang symbol. I can't remember which one was which, but the white side with the black dot/circle is supposed to be the man and men are the representation of goodness and kindness and pure-heartedness while the other side, the black one with the white dot/circle is supposed to be the woman and women are representations of darkness and lying and mystery. It was a stereotypical based thing that basically said all men are good and can't possibly do any wrong and all women are evil temptresses...like the ideas conceived from the whole Adam and Eve thing.
Also, I'm not saying any of you four think that all men are good and all women are bad. I was just saying I noticed this and it reminded me of that thing I had read (which might not be accurate anyway) and I just felt like sharing it
haha, that's a very interesting thing to notice! Actually we all were amazed that all of us decided to make Day a Man. We thought all the rest will do it the opposite way, Man being a Night. I don't know why. What you say makes perfect sense - the Adam and Eve reference and the Yin & Yang one, but as far as I can tell all of us just had the same idea without real referencing it to any culture symbol. I guess mine has the most obvious "temptress" stylization, although I didn't think about it back when I sketched the idea. Or maybe I did? Can't remember. One of my specialties at the university was iconography, so maybe sometimes I follow some symbols like that without thinking about them? All in all that just makes it a nice topic for discussion! Thanks for your comment, I really enjoyed reading it
Well, all-in-all, the four pieces are very nice and I thank you for the little insight behind your project/weekly challenge. It kind of makes me wonder if their is some kind of subconscious thought or idea in our brains that makes us perceive Man as "good" or if it was just pure coincidence. And I once again thank you and the other three for just happening to choose this topic/theme and just happening to draw it the way you did because it has made for an interesting thought process, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it
