For each challenge we interchangeably give ourselves an idea or topic to illustrate and a short, specified time to execute it in whatever shape or form... of course, without knowing what the others are going to come up with.
At first I was bloody unhappy with how it was turning out, than something clicked and it ended up ok, I think. I was always worried to go with a painterly style and leave a very simple, graphic composition and I think it sort of turned out like I wanted it too. Thinking of whole series in this style actually (famous queens and historic ladies). Also - used this one as an opportunity to practice hands and skintones.
No direct refs used, but I looked up a lot of Egyptian jewellery and hands (few angles). Not one used for the face though, I always wanted to imagine my own version of Cleopatra, and this is sort of what I had in mind. Not too girly, not to adult. Not too sexy, yet attractive and pretty sensual.
I was wandering if you could let me us this image for an Android game called "Kingdoms of Myth", it's turn based strategy game based on a fantasy World. You can find a little bit more info in this rough website made by my colleges [link] (Sorry for the bad English). Of course you will have full credits of your work and link to your webpage if you want
It's a very beautiful piece of art; the jewellry is breathtaking, just like you imagine the egyptian pharaoh's would dress - they were Gods after all - and I like how the crown-piece seems to end with the sun itself.
Excellent work, and I like your motivation for her face, when you didn't want to make her too sexy or adult. I think that, as a result, just makes her more beautiful to look at. Cleopatra was known as an intellectual foremost by her own subjects and I feel like this Cleopatra is currently examining a foreign dignitary (or is it in fact us?), trying to deside if he is worhty of her time.
But you, and this Cleopatra, is definitely worth my time and fav!
You're right! I'm happy I got to know your art too, watching you as well Good that such an occasion turned out into a nice meeting Thanks for the compliment, I love your art too, can't wait to see your new pieces!
